Who the fuck are you?

0

I know your face
Your smile
Your lips.
I know your tongue, and the inside surface of your cheeks.
I know your eyes - that thoughtless, perfect gaze..
In every detail.
I know your body -
From your neck, through your chest hair
Below.
I know your nipples,
And your perfect mole.
I know your smell.
And sometimes I can close my eyes and
feel my hands run through your hair
As if you’re there
In front of me
I look into your perfect eyes
I think
Who the fuck are you?

The City

1

Riding on a train and
It’s tearing through the morning air and
I’m looking out at the sea
As we roll along the coast
It feels like we’re riding through
the water
And it’s white with light
Shining into my eyes
Half-open
I’m smiling as some folk-music plays
right in my ears.
This girl sings of clouds and love and life
Of which I’d only claim to know the one
And then I’m in the city again.
Occasionally eyes meet
Then divert
And I walk on.
Clouds? I know
I know nothing at all.

Face

1

From a distance the colours of my
face merge to one.
The imperfections of a
self-consciously imperfect whole
fade to grey.
Ironic? I want everyone to
see me from a distance,
In my hope that I might
find someone to hold me
up close.

An empty bed

0

The clinical sense of despair.
That look - the silent, reserved pity.
Nurses smiling -
Why?
Feeling guilty just for being OK
When he’s there, in that bed. Dead.
Except his chest still moves up and down
If you’d notice that.
Cause he’s jerking and he’s
fighting to get back on his feet.
And his eyes are opening and
shutting as he’s trying to see
the light.

Sadness

1

I desire your time.
Your concentration.
Alright, please. Just a little attention.
It’s easy to just let me in,
Although someone else
usually turns the handle.
I’m here
to stay.
Could be for a while.
But you know that
anyway.
I have your time,
your concentration.
A majority of your attention,
a majority of the time.
Hey, it’s gonna be tough
to get me out on
your own.
Who’ll help though
If no one knows I’m here.

You,

2

If you were a colour you’d be red, I guess.
Brightening wherever you are,
Usually.
Having the opposite effect when
you yourself are dark.
People pay attention to you.
If you were a day you’d be Saturday, for the same reasons.
If I found you in my wallet you’d be a
£20 I forgot I had.
Perhaps a photo,
to someone else I know.
To weather you’re sun through
clouds after the rain, even though
you know
it’ll probably rain again.
And you’re a bridge across something that need never
have been bridged. But I don’t …

Pride

2

Crashing through on my high horse
You’ll watch as I take you with force
You know you want it as it comes
You watch me as the evening runs
Later on, and I’m still talking
I am here, people are rocking
Back and forth I make my way
You all met me here, today
Time passes by, I leave alone
From my high horse I have been thrown
Seconds pass, I climb back up
Ride off again, it’s your good luck
It’s more tragic as I sleep alone
With you beside me, pride …

Row on Row

1

Row on row, room on room
School on school- the weekend looms
And from it all, what does come?
Not a thing that they have done
Life support is plugged deep in
Pumping music deep within
Whatever this weeks number is
Fake creativity is what’s in
Just like sound their life will pass
They’ll leave the camp and realise at last
Some will fall, and some will stand
But most will die and cry at last
For when they die they’ll wonder why
They just can’t make it, though they try

And so it’s over

1

And so it’s over
Week is passed
What’s come and gone
Gone at last
It’s weird that now
It’s gone away
A small part
Wishes it would stay
A tiny part of my life over
I’ve done it now, and over and over
Again I fear
I’ll fear again
But laugh
Again it’s come to pass
And so it’s over
All is done
So little went
Yet so far come
And all is left
But my relief
That once again
That twisted thief
Will take away
What I have done
Whatever felt
So far I’ve come
But as I fear the week ahead
Another week has gone …

Differently Similar

3

I took a stare, a long cold stare
Of all that bares its soul to me
And although complained it wasn’t fair
He bore it all, all over me
I walked along a street at night
No reason but because I can
Watch a man in the night
Who takes a soon forgotten flight
I’m cold and dark
Mysterious
Differently similar
I think I choose
He took a stare, a long cold stare
And hoped I’d bare my soul away
Without a thought, I raised my finger
And continued
Differently similar
Alone in this world
